Scrabble Fest

LV-A's 11th Annual Scrabble Fest
will be held April 19, 2009 in the
Hilton Garden Inn Riverwatch Ballroom, Auburn, Maine.

For more Scrabble Fest information, click here.

Our purpose for holding this event is two fold:

  1. We hope to promote the value of education and literacy through the use of this famous word game; and

  2. We offer this event as an annual fundraiser for our programs.

There are a variety of ways you can help:

  • Scrabble Participant: Form a team of four players, collect pledges and join us in an afternoon of fun.

  • Post a flyer on your company bulletin board and encourage your employees to participate.

  • Invite us to send out an email about the event to your employees, or include an article about Scrabble Fest in your company newsletter.

For more information or to register, email: info@literacyvolunteersandro.org

It is an excellent opportunity to become involved in your community, to have some fun and to advertise your business and support a unique, crucial, and effective community service.

The Letters for Literacy Scrabble Fest is an integral part of our annual fund campaign, making it possible for us to provide help for many illiterate adults and families. We would be delighted to have you participate. Call 207-333-6601, Ext. 1321 or e-mail info@literacyvolunteersandro.org The regular rules of Scrabble are followed, but each game has a 30-minute time limit. Teams of up to four players, collaborating to create a word from the same letter tray, compete in a round-robin format for three rounds. A table with one Scrabble board seats two four-player teams and an official timekeeper. The team that scores the highest number of points is the champion for their division.

Players are asked to obtain pledges to sponsor their participation in the tournament (similar to a bike-a-thon or walk-a-thon). The suggested minimum for a team to participate is $40.00, or $10.00 per participant. There are prizes for the players who raise the most money for Literacy Volunteers. We also have refreshments, raffles, and wonderful door prizes. Teams who raise $200 or more receive free Scrabble Fest t-shirts.

Top fund raisers are awarded special prizes such as an original painting by a local artist, as well as other wonderful prizes donated by local businesses and individuals. Top fundraisers for the event receive prizes.
