Scrabble Fest

The National Scrabble Association has made the tournament available to Literacy Volunteers affiliates nationwide as a fundraiser, and we are approved and registered by Hasbro. Our purpose for holding this event is twofold:

  • We hope to promote the value of education and literacy through the use of this famous word game; and

  • We offer this event as an annual fundraiser for our program.

Tutor Training

The Basic Reading Tutor Training Workshop involves twelve hours of training, given over two, 6-hour sessions. We generally hold workshops on two consecutive Saturdays from 9:00am to 3:00pm. The workshop entails a step-by-step description of teaching methods, review of tutor materials, and role-play. Sessions are limited to 20 people so that all may actively participate.

Literacy Volunteers-Androscoggin’s Annual Meeting

Literacy Volunteers-Androscoggin’s Annual Meeting, held in June, is our yearly opportunity to recognize and celebrate the remarkable work of both our students and our volunteers. There are games to play, door prizes, a delicious buffet, and often a unique performance. Don’t miss this wonderful celebration of Literacy!

Open House

Literacy Volunteers-Androscoggin holds an Annual Open House in December. This is a time for board members, tutors, volunteers, students and staff to meet socially.

KAP Library Meetings

The Knowledge is Power Family Literacy Program (KAP) holds occasional supper and activity evenings for member families in partnership with the Auburn Public Library.
